Marlene Slobin

Marlene turned from a celebrated career as an educator and author to pursue the mixed media arts in 2000. Her internationally award-winning dolls have appeared in Art Doll Quarterly, Soft Doll and Animals, Cloth Paper Scissors, Kreinik Thread Blog, International Doll Artist and the Houston International Quilt Festival.

Mixing shapes and textures with vibrant fabrics and trims, her soft sculptures are elaborately costumed, enchantingly expressive and delightfully whimsical. She constantly challenges herself to explore new materials and techniques—as she says, “My greatest joy is finding unique ways to bring the imagination to life.”

Marlene also writes about creativity and doll-making and contributes regularly to the industry’s many arts publications. She lives and works in Houston, where she is an active member of the Texas Association of Original Doll Artists and the Material Girls of Houston Cloth Doll Club.
